Alan Kersey

Founder, President & CEO

Alan has been involved in optical fiber sensing, optical instrumentation and biotech tools development and systems commercialization through start-ups in Connecticut for over 20 years. In 1997, Alan was the founding CTO with CiDRA in Wallingford, CT. In 2003, he became CEO at CyVera Corp, which was a spin-out from CiDRA focused on the development of an innovative liquid assay for genomic and proteomic analysis using a novel holographically encoded micro-bead technology. Following the acquisition of CyVera by Illumina in 2005, Alan served as Vice President and General Manager with Illumina for their UK group based in Cambridge. Currently he is also a partner with Cycle Ventures, a CT-based venture capital group.

Alan’s scientific background is in optical instrumentation, optical fiber sensing and spectroscopy. He is a prolific inventor and holds over 120 US patents.

He has a BS in Physics from the University of Warwick, and a Ph.D. in Optical Spectroscopy and Medical Physics from the University of Leeds, both in the UK.

Patrick Curry

COO & VP Finance

Patrick has been in senior operational and financial management roles in venture backed technology companies for over 25 years. He recently served as President and General Manager of Expro Meters, in Wallingford CT, where he led the development and world-wide commercialization of cutting-edge technology solutions to monitor hydrocarbon production. Previous to that he was Business Development Director at CiDRA, and part of the team that commercialized the highly successful Sonartrac flowmeter technology.

Patrick has been CFO of several venture backed companies, including Protedyne (acquired by LabCorp), which developed robotic automation solutions for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Patrick has also served as CFO of Novalux, a semiconductor laser start-up, Perimeter Networks, a cloud-based email and network security solutions provider (acquired by BAE), Digital Graphix and Safeway Disposal Systems (acquired by Stericycle).

He was also a partner in NorthEast Ventures, a venture capital/advisory firm, and is a CPA. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Bates College and a M.A. in Business from the University of Hartford.

Michael Sapack

VP Engineering

Mike is Vice President of Engineering at CytoVeris. He is responsible for technology and product development, including project planning, management and resourcing. He is also responsible for the Quality Management System. Previously, Mike was VP Engineering at Expro Meters where was in charge of technology and product development, sustaining engineering and customer support for innovative well optimization instrumentation systems.

He was a founder of CiDRA Corporation, where he was the leader of teams that developed leading-edge optical instrumentation systems for the optical telecommunications and energy industries. Mike’s background includes developing a range of high performance optical and electronic sensors and instrumentation products for demanding environments: Prior to CiDRA, he was been involved in taking numerous products from concept to production and commercialization, such as high speed document processing equipment, and new technologies for guided deepwater drilling.

Mike has experience leading multidisciplinary project teams, obtaining agency certifications and approvals, and implementing and maintaining internal Quality Management Systems.
He holds a B.S. in Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he graduated with Highest Honors.


 

Prior Experience
